Joanna Freude Schwartz is an Enforcement Officer on the Virtual Assets and Emerging Technologies team in the Enforcement and Compliance Division within FinCEN. Joanna leads complex investigations of financial institutions in the digital asset ecosystem to ensure compliance with U.S. AML/CFT obligations. With more than a decade of experience in government, Joanna previously worked in national security and international affairs with the Department of Defense. Prior to joining FinCEN, Joanna helped develop the compliance program of a U.S.-based cryptocurrency exchange. Joanna is a skilled geopolitical risk analyst with a deep knowledge of financial technology, AML/CFT, and process/procedure implementation. Joanna has a BA and MA from Washington University in St. Louis.
